Kenhardt, South Africa, November 2023 – Aurex Constructors, a leading player in the energy sector, celebrates completion of the Kenhardt solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Kenhardt in the Northern Cape, showcasing their commitment to delivering top-tier services and nurturing robust partnerships with their valued customers.
Aurex played a pivotal role in the construction of the 540MW Kenhardt solar PV project in less than a year while accomplishing an outstanding milestone of achieving more than 1 million man-hours without a lost time injury. This is an undertaking that not only adds a substantial capacity to South Africa’s energy grid but also represents a decade of expert utility-scale installations by Aurex in the country.
Their comprehensive scope of work included meticulous procurement, excavation of 350 kilometres of cable trenches, installation of 2,200 inverters and 72 medium voltage transformers, cable termination, fibre optic network installation, and integration of a Battery Energy Storage System. Cold and hot commissioning ensured seamless operation, resulting in a successful project.
The project team, comprised of more than a thousand individuals, brought together a diverse workforce, mostly from the local community. Aurex takes pride in their pioneering efforts to promote gender diversity within the industry. Notably, a 30% female workforce made a substantial and invaluable contribution to the project’s remarkable success.
